Volunteering in your community - we need you!

Would you like to make a difference to people’s lives or to the environment, meet new people and make new friends, take on a new challenge or learn a new skill and improve your job prospects? Have you ever thought about becoming a volunteer?

Within Leicestershire County Council’s Community Services Department there are exciting volunteering opportunities that can get you to get involved in your local community, help the environment and develop your interests.

    • Some of the things you could get involved with are:
    • helping within a local Museum or with a living history event.
    • conserving the environment and habitats in our ·Country Parks
    • helping with Home Library Service and activities in some local ·Libraries
    • working on Snibston’s heritage railway
    • helping to restore a canal or act as a lock keeper
    • putting your IT skills to use

See our Volunteering Opportunities Page for more details.

In many tasks you would work alongside experienced staff - enabling you to broaden your knowledge and develop new skills. You’ll make new friends, meet likeminded people and generally have fun whilst doing something very rewarding!

We also have a number of Conservation Events for Volunteers currently running.

If you’ve got some spare time and would like to have more information about the volunteering opportunities open to you, contact our Volunteer Coordinator - Joan Berry on 0116 305 5956; or email her at joan.berry@leics.gov.uk.

There is a new volunteering scheme for people in North West Leicestershire called VIP (Volunteering Internships and Placements) If you have specific skills you would like to develop or existing skills you would like to share, please contact Amanda Hanton on 0116 305 3422 or email amanda.hanton@leics.gov.uk.

All opportunities for VIP in North West Leicestershire can be found on the Current Opportunities page.
