Leicestershire museums have proved to be top of the class after scooping a national award for providing excellent learning opportunities to children and young people.
Bosworth Battlefield, Snibston Discovery Museum, Charnwood Museum and Donington le Heath Manor House have been awarded the Quality Badge which demonstrates their commitment to delivering high quality learning experiences for schools in a safe and suitable environment. The badge also recognises the support that is given to teachers as part of school visits.
The awards are from the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom in partnership with the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
Museums in Leicestershire offer hands-on activities and workshops which cover many national curriculum subjects and key stages. These experiences help raise educational attainment and play an important part in improving young people’s social, emotional and personal development. They are also some of the most memorable experiences in a child’s school life.
David Sprason, Leicestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Communities, said: “I am delighted that our museums have been recognised for the high quality learning experiences that they provide. Each museum offers a wide range of exciting and innovative visits for schools, bringing the national curriculum to life and enhancing the learning that takes place in schools.”
