  • New Events Guide to Summer in the County

The action-packed summer issue of Leicestershire’s Events Guide is out now, and is available at outlets across the county and city.

This free 72 page guide, put together by the County Council, is packed with hundreds of fun activities and fascinating events at county museums, country parks and libraries – many of which are free.

See the 525th Anniversary Re-enactment of the Battle of Bosworth on August 21st and 22nd, featuring thrilling jousting tournaments, awe-inspiring displays of hand-to-hand combat and hundreds of knights, soldiers and archers recreating the famous battle.

June will be your last chance to see the Starstruck Costume Exhibition at Snibston and the stunning costumes worn by the stars of stage and screen.

You can marvel at The Miners’ Gala in September and celebrate mining heritage in Leicestershire, along with a Gala Parade, colliery bands, tours and local history displays. Plus there will be a chance to ‘Meet the Experts’, a fascinating programme of activities which will run throughout the summer.

There are many more fantastic events to experience, including:

There is also National Family Week, which runs from 31st May until 6th June, launching in libraries across the county and with details listed on the website at www.leics.gov.uk/familyweek. There are evening and weekend openings at some libraries, and they will be gearing up for the summer reading challenge called ‘Space Hop’ in July with many exciting events that the whole family can join in with.

Children and families can have heaps of summer fun too, with a host of activities to choose from including:

    • Family Week Storytime and Bedtime Reading Week with storytelling and craft activities in county ·libraries
    • Countryside activities for spotting wildlife and enjoying nature spots across the county
    • The National Forest Woodfair, during the August Bank Holiday at ·Beacon Hill Country Park
    • Walking Week from 4th – 12th September across the county (there is a pull-out guide in the centre of the Events Guide to start you on your way)

The Guide’s back page competition is looking for Wordsearch Wizards – those who can spot museum objects and identify the odd-one-out get the chance to win £25!

The guide offers lots of reasons to get involved in outdoor pursuits in the countryside like walking, fishing, countryside crafts or even joining in a volunteer day. Plus you could win a £25 museum shop voucher or a free water bottle in the Walking Week prize draw competition.

To find out about any of these events and lots more great days out, pick up your free comprehensive guide from any county library, museum, Service Shop or local Tourist Information Centre.
