Park and Ride Passengers on the Up
The number of passengers taking advantage of eco-friendly, convenient travel at Enderby park and ride has risen by 33 per cent. New figures reveal that in October, just under 400 commuters and shoppers travelled on the service each day compared to the previous month's average of 300.
The 1,000-space park and ride, run by the city and county councils, offers buses into Leicester city centre every 10 minutes and is open from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday.
The range of fares was extended in October meaning that as well as day, group, weekly, 10-trip and four-weekly tickets, passes covering three, 26 and 52 weeks are also available, enabling passengers to travel for as little as £2 a day. Later
this week, a new booklet packed full of money-saving shopping vouchers will be available to passengers using the Enderby and Meynell’s Gorse park and rides.
In the run up to Christmas, both services are putting on extra buses:
• Enderby and Meynell’s Gorse will be open until 9.30pm from Monday to Saturday until 23rd December, with last buses leaving the city centre just after 9pm
• A Sunday service will run at Meynell’s Gorse until 19th December, with the first bus at 10.15pm and last bus from the city centre at 5.15pm
Lesley Pendleton, County Council cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "Park and ride offers an extremely convenient service, helping regular commuters and shoppers to save money and time, and I'm delighted that passenger numbers at Enderby are rising.
"Previous money-saving voucher booklets have proved very popular - coupled with the extended service in the run up to Christmas when traffic jams and parking queues are at their worst, there are even more reasons for passengers to get onboard."

The booklet includes vouchers for: Mem Saab, Niche, Millie’s Cookies, Café Mbriki, Almanack, Danique, Jellyrolls, Amabis and Dominoes. Vouchers are valid when presented at the participating outlet with a ticket for either the Enderby or Meynell’s Gorse service.
