Outstanding schools celebrated

A showcase event to celebrate the achievements of Leicestershire’s 51 outstanding schools is taking place this week (Tuesday, July 12th).
County council leader David Parsons will pay tribute to the hard work of teachers, governors and pupils in helping their schools to achieve the highest Ofsted inspection category.
The event, at County Hall, will feature performances from Redmoor High School’s steel drums and St Martin’s RC Primary’s recorder ensemble.
David Parsons is due to tell the schools: On behalf of Leicestershire’s young people, I would like to thank our 51 outstanding schools for their remarkable achievements and contribution to the county’s future.
Out of Leicestershire’s 286 schools, 51 are classed as outstanding – the highest figure to date – and 158 are classed as good, 76 satisfactory and one inadequate. That means that 73 per cent of schools are good or better, against a national average of 56 per cent.
Leicestershire County Council supports and challenges schools to raise standards, on behalf of young people.
The county council does this through a range of services, including school improvement, behaviour and attendance management, support for special educational needs and many others.
