  • Three chances for Blaby residents to get involved

People can have their say on local services across Blaby district, at three community forum events.

The meetings will give people a chance to have their say on a variety of issues, including:

    •Leicestershire’s local transport plan

•the county council’s winter maintenance programme

•Blaby District Council’s draft sustainable community strategy

•future railway bridge closures in south Blaby.

People will also have a chance to ask questions from the floor, during each two-hour session.

The forums take place at the following times and venues:

    • Residents of Whetstone, Cosby, Countesthorpe, Enderby, Glen Parva, Kilby, Narborough and surrounding areas are welcome to attend their next Community Forum at 6.30pm on Wednesday, November 17th, at Cosby Village Hall, Park Road, Cosby, LE9 1RN.

    • Residents of Blaby, including Braunstone, Glenfield, Kirby Muxloe, Leicester Forest East and surrounding areas, can attend a forum at 7pm on Tuesday, November 23rd, at Glenfield Parish Council, Park House, Stamford Street, Glenfield, Leicester, LE3 8DL.

    • Residents of Aston Flamville, Elmesthorpe, Stoney Stanton, Sapcote, Sharnford, Croft, Huncote, Thurlaston and surrounding areas can attend their forum at 7pm on November 29th, at Manorfield C of E Primary School, Station Road, Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire, LE9 4LU.

Community forums are a great opportunity for people to find out what is happening on their doorstep, give views, get answers to queries and influence local decision-making.

This is the opportunity for everyone to put their viewpoint forward and to be made aware of the very major changes taking place in things like planning policy, public transport provision and voluntary services,” said Mike Lee, the Blaby South Forum Chairman.

Since forums started in January last year, more than 2,500 people have taken part and picked up the latest on services for older people, anti-social behaviour, eco-town proposals, grants, development plans, lorry routes, tackling crime, transport, housing, jobs, loan sharks, roads, community hospitals plus much more.

David Parsons, Leader of Leicestershire County Council, said: "We believe in providing great public services and value for money, but we are always keen to improve these further.

"We want to talk to the people who actually use these services to find out what they really think. Please come along to these meetings, they are your chance to talk to senior officers and politicians and to give them real views on your area.”

    Notes:
The new, county-wide initiative involves Leicestershire County Council, District Councils, Leicestershire and Rutland Primary Care Trust, Leicestershire Constabulary and other Leicestershire Together partners. Forums bring together elected representatives across all tiers of local government - county, district and parish councils, together with a range of other community representatives. Although they do not have formal decision-making powers, forums are important bodies of influence - there is a ‘duty to respond’ to actions recommended.
