Leicestershire's 'greenest' family is spreading the word about making reuse part of everyday life through their brand new Facebook page.
The fictional Greenes are spearheading a campaign designed to cut waste and have been created to illustrate how reuse can form a big part of daily family life.
Featuring regular updates from each family member on how they are making the most of reuse, the page is designed to inspire residents with ideas about how to make the most of reuse in their own lives.
Visitors can put the Greene family on the spot by asking them a reuse related question – they can also add their own comments as well as find out what events the family is attending across Leicestershire.
The drive is led by the Leicestershire Waste Partnership which is made up of the county, district and borough councils.
It’s estimated that £5.6 billion pounds worth of good quality usable household items are thrown away in the UK every year but by mending, swapping and donating things, people can save money and the environment.
Tony Kershaw, Chairman of the Leicestershire Waste Partnership, said: "Reusing items could involve swapping a book, selling unwanted items through second-hand websites and car boots or donating to charity. As well as helping to cut waste, these simple steps save money too.
"The Facebook page is a great way of spreading the reuse message and is a good way of reaching out to a different audience."
