Free Adult Cycling Courses to be held

Free courses for adults who want to learn to ride a bike or boost their confidence in cycling will take place around the county this spring.
People who have never been on a bike, haven’t ridden for a long time or who are reluctant to ride on the road are being urged to sign up for the training which is being organised by Leicestershire County Council.
The course will be delivered by qualified instructors over five two-hour sessions, starting on some routes in Watermead Country Park and Swallow’s Green in Hinckley, before progressing out onto the road.
The courses will consist of small groups with people of a similar skill level and will take place during evenings or weekends, with the aim being to enable people to develop the skills and confidence to cycle for leisure or work.
The first session includes a ‘Dr Bike’, where participants will learn how to do a basic bike check and minor bike repairs.
Courses will be held at Watermead Country Park (from April 6th) and Hinckley’s Swallow’s Green (from 5th June), with more planned in Loughborough over the summer.
Lesley Pendleton, County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: This course is perfect if you have never ridden a bike before and don’t know where to start or are a bit nervous about cycling on the road and would like to bolster your confidence.
Cycling is a great way to get fit, stay healthy, do your bit for the environment and save money on fuel at the same time. These courses can also help you find a new way to commute to work, kickstart a healthy new hobby and meet other novice cyclists.”
