Find out about plans for a new waste facility near Shepshed
Biffa has submitted proposals for an 'energy recovery facility' which would incinerate household, commercial and industrial waste to produce sustainable energy. The site would be located at Newhurst Quarry, south east of Shepshed, towards Loughborough.
Each year, the plant would burn up to 300,000 tonnes of waste and generate around 25MW of electricity. This would be supplied to the National Grid and used to power the plant itself - it is enough to sustain around 42,000 homes.
At the events next month, people will be able to look at the plans, speak to planning officers and ask questions. All residents are invited to come along, including anyone who wants more information following a public meeting held earlier in March.
The exhibitions are being held between 4pm and 8pm on 14th and 15th April, at Shepshed Town Council offices on Charnwood Road.
Issues raised, along with all other comments made to the Council, will be taken into account before a final decision is made. If necessary, any questions which cannot be answered at the events will be responded to afterwards.
People can look at the application and supporting environmental statement by:

The County Council's Development Control and Regulatory Board is due to discuss the application in the next few months.
To make sure comments can be taken into account, residents need to submit them by 30th April.
