Park, ride and save with new fares
Commuters making a daily trek into Leicester can bag a greener and more convenient trip to work for less, thanks to new, money-saving park and ride deals. From this month, passes covering 13, 26 and 52 weeks are available for Meynells Gorse and Enderby park and rides, enabling passengers to travel for as little as £2 a day - this represents a saving of over 30%, compared to daily tickets.
Run by the city and county councils, both services offer frequent, eco-friendly travel and also sell day, group, weekly, ten-trip and four weekly tickets.
Starting this week, three special events are taking place in Leicester city centre, where commuters can find out more about the money-saving fares, pick up a voucher booklet and goody bag, and even grab a bite to eat.
Lesley Pendleton, county council cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "By extending the range of fares, we want to make the services more attractive to commuters, change people's travel habits and cut congestion. "Park and rides offer an extremely convenient service and with the new ticket options, regular commuters and shoppers can save money and time."
Cllr Abdul Osman, city council cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: "These new fare offers are great news for passengers using the park and ride, and I hope they further encourage people to leave their cars at home and use this excellent service.”
The two events - offering a free prize draw, goody bags and more - take place on:
- 29th September, 12pm - 2pm, at Humberstone Gate
- 5th October, 12pm-2pm, at Humberstone Gate
Both services run directly to the city centre, Monday to Saturday, from 7am to 7pm, with Enderby operating on a 10-minute frequency and Meynells Gorse every 15 minutes. Parking at both sites is free for users of the service.
Included in the ticket price is the option to stay on the service (or board the bus at St Nicholas Place, Stand 2 for Meynells Gorse passengers) for the city loop section, which stops at key areas of the city such as the Leicester Royal Infirmary and De Montfort University.
