
What's it all about?
England is bidding to host the World Cup in 2018. Leicester and other cities across the country can bid to become a host city. This means we can host games and have teams staying and training in the city and county throughout the competition.
What YOU can do to help
We need as many votes as possible. Back Leicester's bid - register your support for Leicester on the Back England 2018 Bid website or you can to show your support for the bid by just texting* ‘Leicester’ to 62018 and your vote will be counted!
* Texts are charged at your normal network rate and all numbers gathered shall be deleted once the host cities have been selected.
What chance has Leicester got?
We've got a real chance of becoming a host city. With our central location, excellent transport links, and fine sporting pedigree, Leicester and Leicestershire is perfect for helping host the competition. Along with fantastic support across all parts of the city and county and from the local media, we're confident we'll be bringing the World Cup to Leicester!
How many cities are bidding?
15 cities are bidding. We're expecting 12 to become host cities.
When's it all happening?
Our final bid document is due to be submitted by November 6th. The FA will announce the host cities that will form part of England's bid to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in December 2009.
What's in our bid?
We're highlighting Leicester's longstanding sporting pedigree; the Walkers' large seater stadium; our great training facilities across the county; numerous transport links; impressive accommodation throoughout the city and county; ready made fan park sites; and overwhelming support from the people of the city, county and local media.
