Beware the 12 Fakes of Christmas
Trading Standards is urging shoppers not to be tempted by the 12 fakes of Christmas.
Officers have written new lyrics for the traditional Christmas song, to warn people about the kinds of goods that are being counterfeited this year.
They range from fake Gucci handbags and Rolex watches to cigarettes and vodka.
Fakes can be of poor quality and some are dangerous. Rebecca Day, 17, from Braunstone Town, suffered burns to her hair and scalp, after using counterfeit GHD straighteners she received as a present.
Many fakes are sold on websites, often located abroad. Trading Standards has warned shoppers to check where a company is based, as UK consumer laws do not apply to foreign firms.
Head of Regulatory Services, David Bull said: “Don’t be tempted by the 12 fakes of Christmas – counterfeit goods can bring misery and disappointment, so it’s not worth the risk.”
Anyone with concerns about counterfeit goods can contact Consumer Direct on 0845 404 0506.
