Service Shop Public Internet Computer Use
Terms and Conditions
Public Internet Computers are provided in Leicestershire Together Connect service shops for use by the residents of Leicestershire to give free access to information about public services on the Internet via the website of Leicestershire Together Connect.
Joint service shops have been developed by Leicestershire Together Connect, a partnership between Leicestershire County and District councils, with Leicestershire County Council being the lead agency.
These terms and conditions form an agreement between the user of this service and Leicestershire County Council, the lead agency representing the Leicestershire Together Connect partnership. Users of this service must agree to comply with the following terms and conditions:
1. All users must abide by any statutes or laws in force that apply to computer users. Illegal acts may lead to prosecution.
2. Transmission of any material in violation of any laws is prohibited. This includes, copyright material, threatening, offensive or pornographic material.
3. Individuals are required to abide by any copyright restrictions.
4. Customers may not load their own software or connect their own equipment to the service shop computer equipment or otherwise interfere with the equipment in any way. The CD drive, the floppy disc drive and the USB port have been disabled.
5. Access to the computer will be withdrawn if
• illegal or offensive activities, or the viewing or distribution of illegal materials are undertaken
• used for a purpose inconsistent with the policies and purposes of the Leicestershire Together Connect service
• a user and /or their carer is found to be in breach of these Terms and Conditions.
6. Young people under 8 years cannot use a terminal alone and must be accompanied by a carer. A carer must be a parent or an older responsible person aged 14 or over. Carers are advised to oversee the use of the Internet by young people who are 8 or over.
7. The service shop uses Web checking software that will block sites to users in certain categories including: Pornography/Adult Content/Sex; Illegal Drugs; Racist or hate news media; Sites deemed ‘tasteless’ i.e. offensive; Sites promoting or containing violence. Users of the Internet are, however, responsible for the Internet sites they visit and should be aware that some information may be considered controversial, indecent or inappropriate. Access to this information may cause offence to other users and you agree that if staff ask you not to access such materials that you will immediately refrain from doing so. In these circumstances the site may be blocked in future.
8. Leicestershire Together Connect accepts no liability for damage or loss, direct or indirect, arising from the use or unavailability of its public Internet computer.
9. Leicestershire Together Connect reserves the right to terminate the service at any point in time and does not guarantee the availability of the Leicester Together Connect website at any particular period.
10. Leicestershire Together Connect has no control over:
•Accuracy and integrity of information
•Content of Internet links that you may visit
•On-line transactions made by members of the public for which the Leicestershire Together Connect declines responsibility.
